Cruise 6 - LITTLEBOROUGH TO SOWERBY BRIDGE

(short break - 5 nights) Rochdale Canal

Day 1
Arrival and settling in.
We are moored in Littleborough, a bustling little town. We expect our guests to arrive at 4.00pm, but you may leave your cases with us earlier if you wish, and spend some time exploring the town (Saturday is market day!)

Day 2
From Littleborough, we go up over the summit of the canal before descending into Todmorden, a delightful Pennine town on the Lancashire-Yorkshire border, with lots of history, shops and historic buildings. The route is scenic with extended views, so don't forget your camera! This section of waterway is also a haven for birdlife.
(5 miles, 19 locks)

Day 3
Leaving Todmorden behind, the countryside opens out initially, but later is tucked tightly under a steep hillside covered by ancient deciduous woodland, we descend to Hebden Bridge, passing gaily painted cottages with cobbled alleyways.
(5 miles, 10 locks, Black Pit Aqueduct)

Day 4
Hebdon Bridge is a beautiful town, filled with a variety of delicate stonework, towers, turrets at every turn. There are many tempting little shops, so we guess you'd like to spend a day here. You can also visit Heptonstall, an extraordinary 'textile village' little changed over the centuries, which provides one of the most spectacular viewpoints in Calderdale, set high on hills overlooking Hebden Bridge.

Day 5
We travel on, all around the waterway offers views of a tranquil rural scene - tiny stone-walled fields reaching up steep hillsides to the nearby horizon. The Rochdale Canal ends at Sowerby Bridge, the end of our cruise. The centre of Halifax is only a few miles away, and you may wish to spend some time there before returning for your evening meal.
(6 miles, 8 locks)

Day 6
We will call you a taxi from Sowerby Bridge to Halifax Railway Station, so that you can catch a train back to Littleborough if you have left your car there
